Apostle Reuben’s 40 Days in Prison: A Testimony of Faith and Divine Justice

In July 2010, after returning from an evangelical mission in Bujumbura, Burundi, I found myself facing yet another challenge—one that tested my faith in ways I never imagined. Due to the message I preach and teach, a group of religious leaders conspired against me. Led by Rev. William Ganshaga, the High Priest of Rukoni Archdeaconry at the time, they forged documents and falsely accused me. With bribery at play, they influenced the Chief Magistrate, who unjustly sentenced me to one year in prison.

But God had other plans.

Despite their intentions, my time in prison was cut short. The High Court Judge in Mbarara, upon hearing about my case, called for my file. By divine intervention, I was released after exactly 40 days in prison—not a year, as they had plotted. It was a sign that no matter how men scheme, God’s will always prevails.

After my release, something remarkable happened. The very people who had orchestrated my imprisonment began to face unforeseen consequences. Rev. William Ganshaga tragically died in a motorcycle accident. The Chief Magistrate, who had been bribed, succumbed to a fatal illness. Jimmy, one of those who handled the bribe, and a woman who was paid to falsely accuse me, both met untimely and unusual deaths. The woman, in particular, lost her sanity and continues to live in misery to this day.

This testimony is a reminder that God is ever-present with His messengers. He protects them and ensures that His truth prevails, no matter the opposition. My time in prison was not a punishment but a testimony of God’s faithfulness. What was meant to break me only strengthened my resolve to spread His word even further.

To those who stand for the truth, fear not! God sees, He knows, and He fights for His own. Justice belongs to the Lord, and He will always prove Himself mighty in His time.
